Light Rail Transit – Line 1 system map now includes upcoming stations under Cavite Extension Phase 1 with a note that says “soon,” teasing the public of the new stops.

However, not all are excited.

Facebook post of a commuter uploaded last July 16 showed a third-generation LRT-1 train set with extended route maps that include the forthcoming Redemptorist, MIA, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino and Dr. Santos stations.

This drew mixed reactions from passengers. Some said they are looking forward to the opening of the five stations which is part of the 11.7-kilometer Cavite extension project.

“Yuuun mabilis na pumuntang airport tsaka pa-Bacoor kung wala na akong makain dito sa condo,” a Facebook user said.

“Naks. Makakagala na naman ako neto sa Etivac.” another user shared.

However, some fear that LRT-1’s upcoming additional stops could mean more people crowding inside the trains.

“Ako na hindi natutuwa kasi mas dadami tao forda late talaga lalo ,” a Facebook user commented.

“Literal standing ovation ka talaga diyan HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH,” another user joked.

“Ang haba na san ka na sisiksik pag rush hour?” a Facebook user commented.

The post has now garnered almost 7,000 reactions, and almost 2,000 shares on Facebook.

The LRT-1 Cavite extension project broke ground in May 2019 while the physical construction, design and civil works began in September of that year.

As of March 2023, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, said that the progress of the project has reached 82.7%.

These are the progress of the stations as of March:

  • Redemptorist Station (56% complete)
  • MIA Station (61% complete)
  • Asia World (51% complete)
  • Ninoy Aquino Station (55% complete)
  • Dr. Santos Station (60% complete).

The first five stations of the LRT-1 route toward Cavite are expected to begin their operations in 2024.
